World’s First Car Recognition Billboard Tailors Message to Porsche Drivers
Last week, Porsche drivers headed to the Melbourne Airport got a nice little ego stroke as they passed by a digital billboard. The billboard displays a normal ad to people driving by, unless it detects a Porsche vehicle approaching. In that case, the smart billboard changes to display a personalized message that reads “It’s so easy to pick you out of a crowd.”
A spokesman for display advertising specialists oOh Media, says this campaign was made possible through the use of sophisticated vehicle recognition software.
“This is the first time that image recognition software has been used to identify a car on the move,” he says. “It recognizes the shape and expects of the exterior of the car, not the driver. It opens up the flexibility to be able to create new revenue streams, in terms of being able to put a number of clients up on the main site.”
Personally, I think the technology is quite remarkable, and you know that it’s only a matter of time before we see the wide-spread growth of smart billboards like these.
