What You Can Do To Stay Healthy At Work

Published

on

Staying healthy at work isn’t always easy. You face a lot of challenges. Most jobs actively work against your personal well-being, forcing you to do things you wouldn’t ordinarily do, such as sitting down for ten hours at a time or exposing yourself to harmful chemicals.

The good news is that there are plenty of ways you can stay healthy at work. That’s what we discuss in this post. Check out our ideas below.

Take A Healthy Lunch

Most offices don’t provide healthy food at lunchtime. And that’s a problem. Lack of proper nutrition makes it hard to stay a healthy weight.

Fortunately, you can bring a healthy lunch with you, packed with nutrients your body needs. Bring whole grains, fruits, beans, and vegetables with you to keep your weight in check.

Be Smart About Your Health Risks

Get to know the health risks in your environment and find out what you can do to mitigate them. Arrange health and safety services to come to your premises and provide proper on-the-job training. Wear ear protection, goggles, and other protective clothing when required.

Avoid Working Long Hours, Several Days In A Row

Working long hours on a Monday is okay, but continuing through until Friday could damage your health. Studies show excessive work takes a toll on people and prevents their bodies from entering a resting state. Avoid this if you can.

Keep Your Distance From Screens

Sitting in front of a computer all day can damage your eyes if you are too close. Therefore, make sure you leave plenty of distance between yourself and whatever is in front of you. You want to leave around a foot and a half to be on the safe side.

Stretch More Often

Stretching a few times a day can make a tremendous difference to your overall health. Stay limber by stretching your neck, touching your toes, and doing neck stretches to loosen up the muscles at the base of the head.

Drink More Water

Everyone says to drink more water, but it can have tremendous effects on your health. Water dilutes the blood, making it thinner and reducing the impact of salt. It may even help you ward off chronic disease and stay younger for longer. Getting dehydrated causes you to lose concentration and makes you more prone to headaches.

Don’t Snack

Avoid the temptation to spend the day snacking, unless, of course, you’re eating fruit and nuts. In which case, snack all you want. Nuts actually reduce hunger throughout the day. The people who eat the most nuts tend to have the slimmest waistlines.

Clean Your Equipment Regularly

Another way to stay healthy at work is to clean your equipment regularly. Wiping down your keyboard, mouse, phone and other tools and accessories helps to kill germs and prevent the spread of infection, particularly in the winter when the risk is high.

Take Breaks When Needed

Lastly, listen to your body. Take breaks when you need them. Try to avoid exhausting yourself day after day. Make sure you have time to recover.
