What I’m Listening To – 8/30/11
I have so much music on my iPhone that I never listen to, so I decided to put it on shuffle and rediscover these old favorites of mine. Enjoy!
Straight Up – Angel’s Son
This song was originally done by Sevendust, but Straight Up’s tribute version (featuring Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust) is so much better. Straight Up was a tribute to Snot singer James Lynn Straight, who died in a car accident in December 1998. The mellow emotion exuded in “Angel’s Son” makes it the standout on a powerful album full of poignant triumphs.
Class Actress – Keep You
Class Actress’ full-length debut Rapprocher finally arrives this fall, and it’s fronted by a song called “Keep You”. It was my favorite track from Stereogum’s Summer Jams 2011 mixtape, and I can’t wait for the album to be released so I can hear the other 10 tracks!
Holy Ghost! – Hold On
“Holy Ghost! is a DJ duo from Brooklyn, NY, formed by Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser of the now-defunct group Automato. They received some great promotion when their track Hold On was selected as iTunes Store Free Single of the Week in December 2007. I heard this track on an episode of HBO’s How To Make It In America, and have been following them ever since!
That’s all for now.. If you’ve got any tunes that you think I’d like, send me an e-mail!
