The World, Residences At Sea

Ever dreamed of living on a yacht and sailing around the world in the ultimate luxury? Well The World, Residences at Sea is the pinnacle of that fantasy. This privately owned mega yacht is home to a community of high-net-worth individuals, and it is about to get even more luxurious with a massive, $30+ million dry-dock overhaul.

Set to take place over just six weeks at the Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz, Spain, this scheduled refurbishment will not only enhance the yacht’s opulent amenities, but it will also improve sustainability and technological efficiency.

According to Jessica Hoppe, president and CEO of The World, “This extraordinary 40-day, $30+ million outlay in the Ship demonstrates Residents’ commitment to keeping The World at the forefront of luxury living and represents the next chapter in that journey.”

High-Tech Upgrades for a Sustainable Future

The 2025 dry-dock is more than just a facelift—it’s about future-proofing the yacht. One of the biggest additions will be a High Voltage Shore Connection system, also known as cold ironing. This will allow the ship to plug into shore power while docked, cutting fuel consumption and emissions, making it one of the most environmentally conscious ships at sea.

The ship’s bulbous bow will also be replaced. Originally optimized for a speed of 19 knots, the new design will reduce hull resistance by up to 10% and significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, a switch to silicone-based underwater paint will enhance efficiency and reduce the need for cleaning while preventing marine growth.

The Pool Deck Transforms Into a Stylish Social Hub

Deck 11’s Pool Bar & Grill is getting a full makeover. A new enlarged bar area, complete with a pizza oven, will make grabbing a bite or a drink even more enjoyable. More seating, a sleek watertight canopy, and high-end finishes will turn this space into a stylish social hub. Plus, a brand-new Jacuzzi, shower, and updated décor will elevate the entire poolside experience.

The Ultimate Wellness Experience

The World’s 7,000-square-foot spa is also getting some major enhancements. The biggest addition? A Cold Plunge in the Aqua Spa. Cold plunges are gaining popularity among athletes and wellness enthusiasts for their benefits, including improved circulation, muscle recovery, and stress resilience.

For those looking to elevate their experience further, the spa will also feature heated floors in treatment rooms and a redesigned salon with a fresh manicure station and flooring.

Golf at Sea? You Bet.

Golf lovers aboard The World will soon enjoy a more realistic and challenging putting green on Deck 12. The updated surface will mimic land-based greens, complete with realistic contours and slopes. Inside, the yacht’s golf simulator is getting a high-tech upgrade with enhanced ball-tracking and ultra-realistic graphics, allowing Residents to play over 100 world-famous courses, including real-time PGA Tour locations.

Even non-golfers can get in on the action, as the simulator will feature additional games like baseball, football, soccer, and hockey.

Explore the Open Waters Like Never Before

For adventure seekers, The World is adding a brand-new, high-performance Zodiac Pro 850. This 10-seat inflatable boat will take Residents to remote destinations for wildlife viewing, coastal cruising, and even whale watching. With its agility and unobstructed views, it’s the perfect way to experience the ocean up close.

Keeping the Ship in Top Shape

Beyond the flashy upgrades, The World is undergoing essential maintenance to ensure that it remains in peak condition. Elevator systems will be modernized in collaboration with Finnish company KONE, while approximately 50 private residences will receive renovations ranging from updated flooring and furniture to completely redesigned kitchens and bathrooms.

The Pinnacle of Luxury Living at Sea

With this extensive dry-dock refurbishment, The World is doubling down on its commitment to offering the most luxurious and sustainable living experience at sea. For those lucky enough to own a residence aboard, it’s an investment in an unparalleled lifestyle—one that seamlessly blends opulence, adventure, and the latest in maritime technology.
