The Turnstone Buoy Is An Office Chair Like No Other
Did that chair above just move? Yes, the Turnstone Buoy is unlike any office furniture you’ve seen before, designed for today’s movers and shakers. Literally.
You’ve probably heard that sitting at a desk all day isn’t good for your health. But if you’ve got an office job where you’re staring at a computer screen all day, you don’t really have much choice. Fads like standing desks, treadmill desks, and even yoga balls to replace traditional chairs have come and gone, but these aren’t realistic (or even comfortable) options for most people.
As someone who has a bad back and spends 8+ hours a day in front of my computer, I needed to find a better solution. And that’s when I came across the Turnstone Buoy. This quirky little stool swivels, turns, tilts, and moves up and down. It’s active sitting, and it helps keep your body active and your mind sharp.
Buoy is a moving experience, and this video shows you how it works:
The Buoy isn’t designed to permanently replace your normal chair all day, but rather be used in combination with a normal chair as a way to get yourself moving and offer a different type of support. So for the past few weeks, I’ve been switching off between the Buoy and my regular chair every few hours, and the results are undeniable.
My back feels great, even after a particularly long day in front of the computer. The uniquely designed curved base (inspired by the yoga ball) encourages movement throughout the day, and even though you’re making very subtle movements, it makes all the difference in the world. If I could change one thing about the Buoy, I’d ask for a cap with more padding, as I found it a little hard at times.
The Buoy is also completely customizable, with six Buoy colors and 25 cap colors and patterns to choose from. While I went with a pretty safe combination (Element Grey with a Red-Orange cap), there are plenty of combinations to fit every personality out there.
At a little over $200, the Buoy is very reasonably priced, especially if you’re prone to back pain. If you skip four visits to the chiropractor as a result of this, then the Buoy has essentially paid for itself! 🙂
