Surprise Hit Of The Donald Trump Roast? Anthony Jeselnik
Last week, Comedy Central aired the Roast Of Donald Trump. Roasters included Whitney Cummings, Lisa Lampanelli, Jeff Ross, Marlee Matlin, Gilbert Gottfried, Anthony Jeselnik, Larry King, Snoop Dogg, and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino. Seth MacFarlane served as roastmaster.
You may not have seen the roast on TV, but you probably heard about how badly The Situation bombed. It was painful to watch, yet you couldn’t take your eyes off the screen. Most of the roasters are seasoned comedians, but why was Sorrentino invited to participate? (Marlee Matlin was another odd choice, but she’s on Celebrity Apprentice right now, so I guess that makes it ok)
Overall, I enjoyed the Roast. Larry King and Snoop Dogg were suprisingly funny, but the person who stole the show for me was Anthony Jeselnik. Who?
Anthony has appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Last Call with Carson Daly, Down and Dirty with Jim Norton, Premium Blend and his own half-hour special: Comedy Central Presents Anthony Jeselnik. Plus, he was on a lot of those shows twice. He was featured in HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in 2006 and Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival in 2008 and 2010. Anthony was named one of Variety’s “10 Comics To Watch” in 2008. And in 2009 he was featured on Comedy Central’s Hotlist as one of the hottest comedians of the year.
So he’s got some credentials to his name, but I’ve still never heard of him before..
As I browsed his various videos on YouTube, I saw familiar comments being left for him. “Thumps up if you watched alot of this guys videos and looked him up because of trump roast!” This roast really put Jeselnik on the map.. He may be well known in the comedy circles, but he’s finally getting some mainstream recognition. Time for him to cash in on this and make some Dane Cook money! 😀
If you haven’t heard Anthony Jeselnik perform before, and you’re a fan of slightly-dark humor, check out some of his sets that are hosted on YouTube. I think we’ll definitely be seeing a lot more of him in the near future.
