Rock Band Owl To Release ‘The Right Thing’ April 9th
Los Angeles-based rock band Owl – comprised of Chris Wyse (vocals/bass), childhood friend Dan Dinsmore (drums), and Jason Achilles Mezilis (guitar/vocals) – are set to unleash their new album The Right Thing on April 9th.
Owl captivated audiences alongside the likes of Helmet, Jet and Camp Freddy with their self-titled debut album in 2009, a swirling epic in its own right.
Between touring and recording commitments with Wyse’s other gig (playing bass in The Cult), Owl began writing what would become the band’s self-produced The Right Thing in early 2011. Wyse describes the new album as “heavy and bombastic, our unorthodox ode to rock.”
Approaching timeless rock structures through a healthy amount of experimentation and instrumental intricacy, Owl takes flight locked and loaded with unforgettable hooks and impressive delivery on The Right Thing. It’s a combination that instantly impacts and takes up residence inside your head as all great hard rock should.
We recently interviewed Chris Wyse, and it was interesting to learn more about his storied past (playing bass with rock luminaries such as Mick Jagger, Jerry Cantrell, Ozzy Osbourne, Scott Weiland), and how Owl differs from his involvement with The Cult. While he’s forced to conform to The Cult’s established style of music, he’s free to explore his musical creativity with Owl, even delving into his Irish roots on the “Rover” track .. complete with bagpipes!
For this album, the band spent almost 3 years working on it, recording in multiple locations, with a great deal of spontaneity involved. He said the band has matured, that we can expect some “catchy” songs on the new album, and that their focus continues to be on the songs.
Afterwards, we listened to the new album in it’s entirety, and it’s the real deal, sure to win over fans old and new. So do “the right thing” and check out Owl’s electrifying new album when it drops on April 9th!
