Porsche Design Collabs With Hodinkee On Limited Edition Chronograph 1

Since 1972, the ‘sports car on your wrist’ has been an integral part of the history of Porsche Design. Now in collaboration with Hodinkee, Porsche Design is now adding a new chapter to this legendary history. Introducing the Chronograph 1 – Hodinkee 2024 Edition.

As you might know, the iconic Chronograph I is a timeless masterpiece. F. A. Porsche wanted to create a timepiece that was unmistakably derived from the 911 and stood for unrestricted functionality. A precision instrument that revolutionized the watch industry and focused on both function and optimal readability – just like the legendary Porsche 911.

The result was the first all-black chronograph, instead of the usual Silver or Gold. While this decision was highly controversial at the time, it’s now firmly established. With intricately designed details that transform each piece into a tribute to the motorized model.

Now, this updated classic retells the design philosophy of the first chronograph, combining the style of the 1970s with 2024 technology. Countless details of the limited watch reference the history of Hodinkee and Porsche Design.

So what was the thought process behind the “new” watch? Hodinkee asked themselves what it would feel like to discover an original Porsche Design Chronograph 1 tucked away in a drawer for the last half-century, and what it would take to make that watch fit for the present. The result is the 2024 Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Limited Edition For Hodinkee. This watch is rooted in the specifications of F. A. Porsche but with details designed for the modern watch – and car – enthusiast.

True to the original, the watch and bracelet are finished in a matte black, but with an upgraded Titanium-carbide coating. They’ve swapped the traditional tachymeter with a legacy-spec “1 Mile” rehaut for the US market and added a Japanese day wheel as an homage to their friends in Japan. To round it out, they made sure to include the old-school Porsche Design logo and font and threw in a small H at 6 o’clock in Porsche’s iconic red hue. This watch is everything they love about the original Chronograph 1 and then some.

Designed, developed and handcrafted in the Porsche watch factory in Solothurn, Switzerland, the 2024 Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Limited Edition For Hodinkee is limited to 350 pieces worldwide and retails for $9,650.

Strong money for sure, but a drop in the bucket for a die-hard Porsche fanatic.
