OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing Is Its Most Accurate Watch Ever
From record-breaking deep-sea dives to lunar landings, OMEGA’s legacy is replete with large-scale accomplishments. Now the acclaimed watchmaker is adding to its list of achievements with their Spirate System, a revolutionary new patent-pending spiral that allows for ultra-fine rate adjustments. Thanks to this one-of-a-kind mechanism, it is now possible for OMEGA to achieve certified precision of only 0/+2 seconds a day.
To meet these narrow targets, OMEGA had to quite literally reinvent the wheel: drawing on both the technical resources of the Swatch Group and the precision, stability and reliabity of OMEGA’s chronometrically superior in-house movements.
The innovative solution was a totally new Si14 balance spring which allows the watchmaker to act on the stiffness of the hairspring’s attachment point through an eccentric adjustment mechanism located on the balance bridge. This new approach, based on the design of a high precision articulated structure with flexible bearings, is the perfect example of OMEGA’s willingness to run with new ideas and to make progress by taking on challenges.
The OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing is the first watch to feature this new Spirate System, and it’s a looker for sure! Its black-and-yellow colorway and stylish exterior pays tribute to the Seamaster Aqua Terra, which was resistant to 15’000 GAUSS and was released 10 years ago.
This 44.25mm Speedmaster in stainless steel has a black sandwich dial with honeycomb pattern, featuring the racing style minute-track which gives the watch its name. Framing the dial is a black ceramic bezel ring with tachymeter scale in yellow “grand feu” enamel.
This bold yellow shade is also used on the gradient chronograph hand, and yellow and black striped small seconds hand at 9 o’clock. The watch’s 60 minute/12 hour recorder is directly opposite at 3 o’clock, while at 6 o’clock there’s a date window in which the “10” appears in Speedmaster logo font, a tribute to anniversary of the Seamaster Aqua Terra >15’000 GAUSS.
The diamond-polished and bevelled black arrowhead indexes are filled with yellow Super-LumiNova, which emits a yellow glow. This color extends to the Speedmaster and Super Racing wording on the dial as well.
Driving the Speedmaster Super Racing is OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9920, complete with OMEGA’s new Spirate System. Both the movement and assembled watch undergo the industry’s strictest tests to guarantee the highest levels of performance, precision and magnetic resistance.
The beautiful timepiece is delivered in a honeycomb pattern Speedmaster watch box in black with yellow stitching, which includes a recycled nylon NATO strap with black & yellow stripes.
You can purchase the Speedmaster Super Racing for $11,000 at OMEGA boutiques worldwide.
