In today’s world, there seems to be some things in life that can pass us all over. The trouble is, while many of us can fall to the threat of mocking, with the speed the world advances at, it’s no wonder that some things can completely pass us by.

Why It Can Be Just As Important To Get To Grips With The Past

While this post is going to be primarily focusing on the trends of modern society, it is important that we address some of the ways of old and remind ourselves that we should never forget how important these things were.

With each new generation, the ways of old often get lost, but what if we managed to find a comfy middle ground that enabled us to not only adapt to the new but also enabled us to pass on the ways of old.

While it may sound like a nostalgia-fest, the truth is, while the new trends help us find out a way in the ever-changing age of technology, it was the ways of old that taught us respect and how to cope with very little.

By amalgamating the two, we can set not only ourselves but the younger generations onto a path of greatness.

How Can We Embrace The Future

Just before we get into the trends that we find it so difficult to get our heads around, we need to find a way that makes things as easy as possible for us to wrap our heads around these ways.

The trouble is, while most of us would turn to modern media such as YouTube or television for help, it seems that both of these are just full of what we do not understand. The simple truth is that if you want to find a way to embrace the ways of modern life, we are going to need assistance from the young ones around us, and we are also going to be needed to tackle the issue head-on.

If you need to understand something, the age-old rule of learning by doing will never shoot you far wrong. If you truly want to embrace as many trends as possible, it’s time to get up and get hands-on with as many of them as possible. Yes, you may suffer some embarrassment along the way, but that’s just a part of life and learning.

Ok, so we will start with one that is not exactly a trend, but it still comes loaded with things that are totally beyond the understanding of some of us. If we go back some years, there came the intro of text speak.

Now, it’s safe to say that gladly, over the years, text speak has died down exponentially, and once more, people are starting to use the English language once again to communicate. The trouble with this was that as soon as the text speak disappeared, we slowly found people adopting the wonderful thing that was emojis. Now, don’t get us wrong, we love the fact that there are emojis and we can get to grips with a laughing face or two, but let’s face it, emojis hide some sinister secrets.

For example, if somebody were to have sent me a picture of an eggplant a few years ago, I would have thought, “well, that’s a lovely eggplant.” Nowadays, if somebody sends you a picture of an eggplant, it apparently has some phallic meaning.

It seems that emojis were once a way of conveying emotions, and now they have advanced to a stage where there is a hidden meaning behind every emoji, and it’s almost too much to take.

Generations

In this section, we are going to be looking at something that, if we are being honest, we don’t think anybody understands. It seems to be that some clever little influencer somewhere has struggled to place people into generation gaps and has felt the need to create a whole range of groups to help them identify people of certain ages.

Understanding new ways of describing what was once as simple as young, middle-aged, and elderly is now reaching the point of ridiculousness. It seems to be difficult for certain groups to understand that in a world that seems hell-bent on everybody being treated equally, it would create more and more groups to place people into.

For example, it seems to be that people love to refer to themselves as millennials nowadays if we look at the facts behind this, it means quite literally nothing. It is almost as indecipherable as generation x,y and z, this seems to be nothing more than giving yourself a registration plate.

Maybe it’s just people from certain groups or ages that don’t understand this, but one thing is for sure, we not only need to understand what generation is what, we also need to understand why.

Strange Lingo

For those out there who enjoy the glory of social media, there are some terms floating around that seem to bypass a lot of us, and we could really do with an education of what they mean.

One of those terms is “woke culture.” Over the last few years, this term has been flying around social media, and there are certain people among us who are completely clueless as to what the hell it means.

What seems to be more confusing about “being woke” is its literal translation. It seems that woke means nothing more than you are socially aware. Now, this is where things get confusing.

While there are people being referred to as “the woke generation,” it’s slightly worrying to think that not all people fall into this category. It seems that the people that coin these terms aren’t totally aware of what they mean themselves. Being socially aware is one of the fundamentals of life and the development of basic social skills.

Of course, there will be some people that will be unable to do this on the basis of medical reasons, but for 97% of the world, this should come naturally, right? There seem to be an awful lot of words and phrases that have been created that people of a certain age cannot seem to get to grips with.

Why can some people not grasp them? Is it all to do with age? Well, maybe. The highest possibility, though, is that these terms don’t actually mean anything, and for people who see through this, it would be needless to adopt them.
