Mitsubishi Evolution X Final Concept Has 473HP Of AWD Goodness
Fans of the Mitsubishi Evolution were saddened to learn that Mitsubishi was abandoning the storied rally car and turning it’s attention towards the development and production of fuel-efficient models.
However, they’ve surprised us with the release of one final variant that’s being previewed at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2015 early next month, the Mitsubishi Evolution X Final Concept. And based on the comments that Mitsubishi Motors North America executive VP Don Swearingen made last month, it appears that this car will actually come to market (in a limited production of 2000-2500 units) in June of 2015.
The Mitsubishi Evolution X Final Concept is based around the existing GSR model and features a plethora of noteworthy upgrades. Whereas the standard Evolution deliver 291HP and 300 lb-ft of torque from its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, Mitsubishi engineers have managed to extract a monstrous 473HP for the Evolution X Final Concept and mated it to a five-speed manual transmission!
So how the heck did Mitsubishi manage to squeeze an extra 182HP out of the EVO? The power gains have been achieved with the fitment of a HKS turbocharger, a new air intake, complete exhaust system, revised cooling, as well as a brand new ECU. Mitsubishi has also installed height adjustable sports suspension from HKS as well as forged 19″ Rays wheels. And as you can see, the car has a matte black finish, with the roof and rear spoiler painted gloss black.
Needless to say, Subaru WRX STI owners should be VERY afraid..
Mitsubishi has not released pricing on the Mitsubishi Evolution X Final Concept, nor have they stated whether the U.S. model will get the same 473HP HKS-equipped drivetrain that they will be debuting at the Tokyo Auto Salon next month. For now, we’ll just have to wait with our fingers crossed and hope for the best!
