Last-Minute Moving Tips

Published

on

The run-up to moving can be frantic, with so many arrangements to make; from ensuring everything is packed and the removal company is booked, to throwing out or donating unwanted items which will only clutter up your new home. However, here are some last-minute tasks to remember.

Last-Minute Cleaning

Even if you’ve cleaned your old home a few days before moving, it’s likely to need a quick clean before you go. If you’ve sold your existing place, you don’t want the new owners moving into a dirty home. So, although moving day might be hectic, it’s worth setting aside time to do this.

If you haven’t found a place to buy yet but are considering moving somewhere near the beach and with good weather, you could look for houses for sale in Naples Florida as it’s a fantastic location with lots of great amenities.

Photograph Your Electronic Equipment

If you have a television with wires plugged in the back, connected to games consoles, and other devices, reconnecting these can be a challenge. A photograph is the best way of helping yourself remember where each wire goes. The same should be done for any other electronic equipment which you might struggle with.

Defrost Your Fridge And Freezer

If you give your fridge and freezer a couple of days to defrost, this should be enough time to clear up any water and give them a clean so they’re ready to be moved to your new home. This may mean living on canned goods, with the occasional takeout, or buying pre-made sandwiches for a couple of days.

Arrange A Babysitter (Or Pet Sitter)

If you have children, it might be easier for you if you arrange childcare for the day, or for them to stay with grandparents for a couple of nights. This gives you enough time to move, unpack and set up their rooms. By the time you pick them up, the new place will feel more like home.

Alternatively, if you have pets, a pet sitter or boarding house can be useful, because the last thing you want is for your cat or dog to run off while you’re distracted with the move.

Create A List Of What You Have Left To Do

It’s likely there will be other last-minute tasks that haven’t been done yet. This can keep you awake as you try to remember them for the next day. Then you’ll be exhausted on moving day. Instead, make a list of all the tasks that need to be done.  Cross off each one afterward, and if you keep it on your bedside table so you can write down anything you suddenly remember. Then you should be able to sleep without worrying you’ll forget something.

All the work in the run-up to moving, and those last-minute preparations will be worth it when you’re settled in your new home. Try to remember that if the workload starts to feel too much.
