Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Jeans: How To Get The Look For Less
During his Super Bowl LIX halftime show at Caesars Superdome, Kendrick Lamar captivated audiences not only about his music and performance, but also about his distinctive fashion choice. We’re not talking about his custom blue leather Martine Rose jacket or his backwards cap with a $68,000 diamond Rahaminov brooch, but rather his flared jeans.
Kendrick was sporting a pair of $1,300 Celine jeans (flared surf jean in summer dazed wash), and a fun fact about them is that they were originally intended for actor Timothée Chalamet (the duo share the same stylist, Taylor McNeil) and were actually a women’s size 29.
People flocked to the Internet, sharing their adoration for the jeans (which were described as bootcut, flare and bell bottoms), with one TikTok user writing: “The fit? Amazing. The flare? Immaculate. About to order them. Best ad for jeans I’ve seen in a while.” Another person wrote “I could not take my eyes off his hems.”
According to Celine’s website, they are “flared surf jean in summer dazed wash,” and despite that hefty price tag, the luxe brand sold out of the jeans right away. Naturally, this beckons the question if this style of jeans is back in fashion.
The low-rise, flared design harkens back to early 2000’s fashion, but the style has been gaining popularity in recent years. Lamar’s choice to wear these jeans during such a high-profile event made it even more mainstream now. Fashion icons like Bella Hadid and Pharrell Williams have also been spotted wearing similar styles, further cementing the comeback of these denim cuts.
For those inspired by Kendrick Lamar’s look but deterred by the high price tag, more affordable alternatives are available. Our friends at Buffalo Jeans has a great selection of boot-cut denim dupes for both men and women that are sure to fit the bill without breaking the bank.
Men can choose from King Slim Bootcut Jeans in Sanded Indigo ($119), Game Relaxed Boot Vintage Jeans in Light Blue ($77), or King Slim Bootcut Jeans in Sanded & Whiskered Blue ($119). I recently got a pair of the King Slim Bootcut Jeans in Sanded Indigo, and they really look great and fit perfectly!
Women looking to get the same look can choose from the Queen Mid Rise Bootcut Jeans in Vintage Blue ($109) or Queen Mid Rise Bootcut Jeans in Whiskered & Sanded Blue ($63).
Kendrick Lamar’s choice of flared jeans during this year’s Super Bowl halftime show not only showcased his unique fashion sense but also played a significant role in reigniting interest in bootcut and flared denim styles, influencing both high fashion and mainstream markets.
I wore bootcut jeans for the greater part of my 20s and 30s, and I’m excited to see them back in style (or at least on their way back) once again!
