Is It Time To Jump On The SUV Bandwagon?
Since their introduction to the market, SUVs have increased massively in popularity. In fact, SUVs were so popular in 2022 that they made up 46% of all new car sales globally. Non-SUV owners will soon be a minority. Is this a sign that it’s time to jump on the SUV bandwagon? Below are some reasons why you may want to consider buying an SUV in 2023.
All-terrain capability
SUVs may be more road-focused nowadays, but most of them still have the option to be taken off-road. This makes them popular cars in rural areas where they can easily manage dirt track roads or rocky mountain paths. They’re also better on snowy and flooded roads due to their four-wheel drive capability and increased height.
Superior comfort
If you regularly go on long journeys, an SUV could be a good choice due to its superior comfort. These cars have more spacious interiors than sedans and hatchbacks. They also glide over bumps due to their ride height and suspension. Some new BMW SUV models even come with adjustable suspension, allowing the ride height to be adjusted according to the driving conditions.
Boot space
SUVs have a lot of boot space, which makes them a popular family vehicle. You’ll be able to pack plenty of luggage in them when going on a family break, and you’ll equally be able to fit lots of shopping bags in the boot. There’s even enough space for dogs, allowing you to free up the back passenger seats. If you’re tired of having a restrictively small boot, an SUV could be the upgrade you need.
Safety
A lot of modern SUVs rank well when it comes to safety. Because of their size and shape, passengers are often better protected in a collision than in any other car. Their size also makes them more visible – other cars are less likely to pull out on you because of this. Manufacturers such as Volvo and Acura are known for having some of the highest safety ratings.
Fuel efficiency
A lot of people used to avoid SUVs because they were notorious for being fuel guzzlers. This is not the case with modern SUVs though. Since 2000, SUVs have become 70% more fuel efficient on average. New SUVs are now a much better option than most used hatchbacks on the road. A lot of them are also hybrids – making them even more cost-effective and greener.
Why you shouldn’t get an SUV
SUVs may come with a lot of perks, but they’re still not suitable for everyone. Their size can make them more difficult for maneuvering into tight spots. Because of this, a lot of city drivers have still not converted to them. SUVs also come with a much higher price tag than sedans. Those who are trying to buy a used car on a small budget are often better off avoiding SUVs due to this. Brand new SUVs can be particularly expensive, and almost always have to be bought on finance. A new sedan is likely to be more affordable.
