2013 Infiniti G37 Sedan

Infiniti just announced that a revised line-up of the Infiniti G37 sedan models will continue to be available in the United States through 2015, alongside the car that’s slated to replace it, all-new Infiniti Q50.

Confused? You’re not alone.

Infiniti recently announced pricing for the new Q50 Sedan for all 10 Q50 trim levels, with the cheapest model starting at $36,700. This high cost of entry may send budget shoppers to BMW or Mercedes-Benz, both of whom offer cheaper smaller-engine cars.

By substantially reducing the price of the the G37 sedan models, Infiniti can now compete with those other budget luxury models, selling buyers on their more powerful offerings.

Here’s how Infiniti America’s Vice President Ben Poore explains it:

The introduction of the Q50 with its distinctive design, engaging performance, world’s first technologies and unmatched levels of connectivity and personalization, enables us to pursue a two-pronged strategy. It creates room to strategically offer the repositioned G37 at the lower end of the near luxury segment in addition to the higher-positioned Q50. The two vehicles aim at different market segments and allow us to serve different customer needs.

The G37 Sedan Journey and G37 Sedan AWD will continue to be produced throughout 2015, with the Premium and Navigation Packages as the only two available options. The rear-wheel drive G37 Sedan Journey has an MSRP of $32,550, while the G37 Sedan AWD has an MSRP of $34,150.

It should be interesting to see how this gamble plays out. I feel bad for the poor sucker who bought a new G37 Sedan last week for $37K. Talk about a depreciation hit!
