Gym Induction: How To Get Through It!
When you are new to the gym, you will go through a gym induction as you learn how to use the machines and respect the way things work around you. Most people think that this is a boring exercise that just gets in the way of the work you want to do with the machines and weights. The thing is, the gym induction is a very important piece of the workout and fitness puzzle. If you miss this, you’re potentially missing out on how to use the gym to your advantage.
No one likes the idea of walking around a gym and being taught what to do by someone else, but if you want to improve your strength and physique, you need to do this alongside those Steel Supplements that you’re taking. You have to do more for your body and skipping a gym induction is like skipping the instruction manual before playing a game – you don’t do that or you get lost. You need to get through your induction and feel like you’ve learned something by the end of it, so let’s check out a list of ways you can ensure that your induction to the new gym is maximized!
1) Be Safe
If this is your first time in the gym, you need to remember that safety is key. If you don’t know how to use something, ask someone. Don’t try to guess! The trainers and gym regulars there can demonstrate how to use machines and how to change weights. You should also ask for a trainer to look at the way that you do things and tell you whether you have the correct form while you do it. If you have poor technique, you will be corrected and able to be safer while you are working out around others.
2) Don’t Feel Embarrassed!
You are new, but that doesn’t mean that you should feel worried. Sure, it’s natural to feel nervous when you are new to something, but no one is staring at you. People aren’t watching what you’re doing – they’re too busy to watch you. They’ll only notice what you’re doing if you don’t wipe the machines down after you have used them, or you don’t re-rack your weights.
3) Wear Workout Gear
You may be there to have an induction, but you need to think about not wearing your street clothes into the gym. Even if you are just being walked through the machines, it doesn’t mean that you can’t try things out for yourself. Be ready to break a sweat and show your trainers that you are ready to go at any time! Inductions review the machines, but most trainers like to see it as a training session, so act like you’re there to train and you’ll get so much invaluable advice. They can talk to you through nutrition and supplements, too.
4) Talk About What You Want From The Gym
When you go to a stylist, you don’t expect them to know what you want. You expect to discuss your needs and your ideas, and they will then tell you what they can do for you on that basis. You have to treat the induction the same way, in that you should talk about what you want to get out of the gym and what you want for your fitness. They will be able to discuss with you the best routines and machines you should use, too!
5) Bring Water
You have to remember that dehydration is a big thing in a gym. You’re working out hard and breaking a sweat, so you need to replace that lost water as much as possible. So make sure to bring water with you and remain hydrated during and after the workout you’re about to do in your induction.
6) Be Polite
There are some unwritten gym rules that every gym-goer needs to know. The induction you go on is the opportunity that you take to learn the rules, from wiping down the machines to not using your phone while you work out. You need to focus on your training plan and you cannot do that when you’re scrolling Instagram. Don’t hog the mirrors while you’re working out and always, always re-rack your weights after you use them. These aren’t written rules, but they are things that you can do to be polite while you are in the gym.
Congratulations on taking the first step to improving your body and health. While the gym might seem daunting at first, once you get into a rhythm, you’ll be good to go!
