Fulfilling Careers That Pay Well (In Most Cases)
Growing up, many of us had fanciful ideas of what we wanted to be when we grew up, whether it was an astronaut, zookeeper, or professional football player. But as we got older, we started looking at more realistic and attainable career options. And unless you had a really defined idea about what you want to achieve in life, it could be a bit confusing.
This begs the question – If you don’t know what you want, how can you work towards it?
That’s why so many people choose to retrain after being in the workforce for a few years, once they realize that they’re not in a job that they love. Sound like you, collecting a paycheck but dreading going to work each day because it’s not your passion?
We’ve got some career choices that might be a better fit for you, many of which pay well:
Teaching
Teachers have one of the most important jobs, passing along their knowledge to the younger generations of students. There’s a lot to be said about the impact a teacher can have on their students. The inspiration you impart and seeing children grow and achieving their goals.
Becoming a teacher isn’t always an easy option. It’s a difficult job with a lot of red tape, and sometimes the parents (and kids) can be less than pleasant.
But once in a while that 5 years of training pays off when you see a shy, quiet pupil flourish and grow into an articulate wealth of knowledge. And that’s when you know it was worth it.
Law
This is a pretty broad subject, and the learning can be intense. But the difference that you can make in someone’s hour of need is nothing to be sniffed at. You can even take online criminal justice degrees, alongside your job.
There are so many sectors in which you could consider a role:
- Bankruptcy
- Corporate
- Divorce
- Finance
- Property
And so many more. You probably have an idea of what you’d be most interested in, and it’s all within reach. Of course, you will be subject to passing things like the Bar exam, as well as stiff competition for those coveted high pay grade prominent firm positions.
Medical
Many children talk about becoming a doctor when they grow up, much to the pleasure of their parents. In general, it seems to be something innate in many of us, as the idea that your hands can heal is pretty powerful.
Of course, the many years of school, the intense studies, and the brutal hours might have you consider otherwise. But the ability to bring someone from a painful and scary place back to feeling healthy and hopeful is beyond compare.
If you do decide to go into the medical field, be sure that you are fully committed and have an idea of what it is that you’d like to do.
Veterinary
It might finally be time to realize those dreams of nursing sick, injured animals back to health. Like anything medical, it’s a long process, but if you have a good grasp of science, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to pursue this.
Courses in animal behavior would be a great place to start. If you aren’t sure if you have what it takes then you can try and spend some time at an animal sanctuary and even the local vets.
It takes on average four years to complete a degree in veterinary medicine. Your doctorate will cover animal anatomy, biology, chemistry, nutrition, zoology, plus many other integral parts.
Dermatology
You might not consider this in your list of jobs that do good. But, helping others to feel great will give you a daily buzz of happiness. And, it isn’t all about providing people with great skin, even better skin. Dermatology covers the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes.
More often than not we think of dermatology in a beauty capacity. However, dermatologists are trained to treat a vast amount of issue, including:
- Eczema
- Hair disorders
- Nail issues
- Rosacea
- Psoriasis
And they can also perform some life-changing surgeries – from skin grafts and Mohs surgery to cosmetic injections and chemical peels.
So there you have it, five career choices that are fulfilling and might be a better fit than the job you’re currently doing. If you’re not happy in your current position, the only things that is stopping you is yourself. It’s time to make a change.
