Distinctive Jaguar Type 00 Concept Gives A Glimpse Into The Brand’s EV Future
As you may have heard, Jaguar is in the midst of a rebrand, with the British automaker looking to reinvent themselves in the face of dismal sales. Last month, they unveiled a pretty generic new logo, along with a polarizing Copy Nothing ad campaign that felt rather “woke” and didn’t even feature any cars! What the heck was Jaguar thinking?
Over the years, Jaguar definitely lost its way, and their decision to only sell EVs seemed rather shortsighted given how demand for EVs have softened. But we were cautiously optimistic that the British automaker could reinvent themselves and get some of their mojo back, as they have designed some of the sexiest cars in history (like the F-Type and E-Type).
Sadly, after seeing the Jaguar Type 00 concept last night at Miami Art Week, I honestly don’t know what to think anymore. The car looks absolutely ridiculous, and that seemed to be the general among my peers (and the Internet by and large), but those within the company think that it’s a work of art for some reason, clearly drunk on their own Kool-Aid.
“Type 00 is a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy. It has an unmistakable presence. This is the result of brave, unconstrained creative thinking, and unwavering determination. It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A vision which strives for the highest level of artistic endeavor,” said Gerry McGovern, Chief Creative Officer, JLR.
Gone is the curvaceous sensuality and feline aggression that Jaguars have long been known for, replaced with geometric forms, symmetry and simplicity for a very minimalist look. The interior is equally modernist, with dramatic butterfly doors, woven textile trim and brass and travertine stone highlights, as well as screens that deploy from the dash.
The Jaguar Type 00 is a concept car for now, but it will be interesting to see how this design will influence the four door GT production car when it’s unveiled in late 2025.
Jaguar engineers are projecting a range up to 430 miles on a single charge for the production vehicle, with up to 200 miles of range in 15 minutes when rapid charging. This car will retail for more than $120,000, which is a challenging price point to say the least.
And with that, I’ll leave you with these photos and let you come to your own conclusions. Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
