Caviar By DNHG

Nestled along the scenic waterfront of Edgewater, New Jersey, Caviar By DNHG is looking to redefine luxury dining with its unique blend of culinary artistry, welcoming ambiance, and a commitment to excellence. This BYOB restaurant has quickly become a standout destination for food enthusiasts seeking an extraordinary culinary experience.

For those of you unfamiliar with Caviar By DNHG, it’s a high-end restaurant located at 232 Old River Road in Edgewater NJ, just a stone’s throw away from New York City. Founded by Nigel Oniko Douglas and Shauna Neely in 2024, the acronym ‘DNHG’ represents their surnames – Douglas and Neely Hospitality Group.

Nigel Douglas is a visionary investor & entrepreneur with a strong presence in the hospitality industry. His professional portfolio includes leadership roles at several notable establishments, such as Caviar by DNHG, The Real Milk and Honey in Atlanta, and Playbar in New York.

Shauna Neely is a self-taught private chef and restaurateur, known for her culinary storytelling and expertise in entertaining. She is actively involved in the restaurant’s operations, and she frequently shares updates and behind-the-scenes content on her Instagram account.

Caviar By DNHG offers a luxurious dining experience featuring (of course) a curated selection of the finest caviars and oysters. In fact, they’re the only black-owned caviar oyster bar in the tri-state area! But they also provide an extensive menu beyond caviar and oysters, aiming to elevate the dining experience for its patrons.

Douglas and Neely have really outdone themselves here. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with no expense spared. There are leather-wrapped walls, over-the-top fixtures, bold artwork from a local artist, a wall that’s covered in graffiti, and more. Walking in, it’s such a vibe, and it sets the tone for a unique dining experience like no other.

We recently were invited to attend an intimate media dinner at Caviar By DNHG, where we got to learn more about the restaurant, and sample from a specially curated tasting menu. Let me tell you guys, the food was absolutely next level, every dish blew us away. Needless to say, they are really putting out some amazing food here.

The dinner started off with a crispy shiitake mushroom arugula salad, and while it’s rare for me to get excited about a salad (especially one with mushrooms), this one definitely warranted it. The mushrooms were sliced thin and then fried up, delivering a taste and mouthfeel like bacon. I don’t know how they managed to pull that off, but it was delicious! Even the dressing was next level.

Caviar By DNHG - Lump Crab Cake

Next up was the spicy tiger jerk shrimp. Elegant presentation, lots of flavor, a touch of heat, a really nice appetizer that is sure to please. This was followed up by a lump crab cake that had plenty of crab, with great flavor for sure. So good, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Of course, we couldn’t visit a caviar and oyster bar without trying out what they’re known for. I’ll admit, I’m not much of a oyster guy myself, so I can’t speak to the quality of them. But my colleagues really seemed to enjoy them. That said, the caviar we had was top notch.

Caviar By DNHG - Grilled Ribeye Steak

Up next was the grilled ribeye, and this was sensational, on par with any high-end steakhouse around. The second I was done snapping some photos, I scarfed this down with the quickness.

Then we tried the Chilean sea bass, which was another delicious bite. If you are a fan of fish, you’re going to absolutely love this one.

Caviar By DNHG - The Fluffy

Lastly, we had to try The Fluffy, a honey butter biscuit that Nigel Douglas made famous in his The Real Milk and Honey restaurant in Atlanta. This dish has been described as a revelation, redefining what a biscuit can be, and after eating one, I totally get that.

And with that, it was time to make my way home, my belly full after an incredible meal with a fun group of new friends. Overall, I was really impressed with Caviar By DNHG. From start to finish, the food was amazing. But Caviar By DNHG isn’t just about food – it’s about creating memorable experiences. And they definitely succeeded on that front.
