Bored of Wordle? Try These Word Games Instead
Although Wordle is a spellbinding game that can keep you occupied all weekend, now and again, you want to pry yourself away from it and try something a bit newer. But what? The answer is any of the excellent word games you can find below that also have neat gameplay.
SpellTower
Do you love a game of Tetris in the evening after work to wind down? And do you love a game of Wordle in the morning to wake up your foggy mind? Why not put the two games together and create something new? That’s exactly what the makers of SpellTower have with this word game.
SpellTower is a perfect blend of word challenges and spatial awareness. Letter blocks fall from the top of the screen and start to build up on the bottom – just like in Tetris! The difference is you have to spell comprehensible words using adjacent letters to cancel the lines and win the game.
WurdWeb
If you love a game of scrabble but don’t have anyone to play it with, you’re going to thank the stars for WurdWeb. Word Web is like a game of micro-scrabble but with additional challenges factored in. As with scrabble, players are given sets of letters to make words with on the board.
But there are some notable differences! The game asks you to place all your letters on the board without running out of space. This sounds easy, but you soon find that letters placed in the wrong spots prevent you from completing the task. There are also different modes to play.
Baba is You
Baba is You is an animated puzzle game that challenges your logic as well as your wordplay skills. If you love games like Zelda and Final Fantasy, then you will also enjoy a game of Baba is You to take your mind off the stress of the day or to relax with on the weekends and kill time.
From a birds-eye perspective, you control a small character in various puzzle maze levels. This is a game where you can break the rules, so if you see an object that might help you gain entry to a feature of the level, you can write things like ROCK IS MOVE, and KEY IS YOU for access.
Letter Quest
Also known as Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey, this game is an excellent alternative to the addictive Wordle. Letter Quest is again like scrabble with a difference. Instead of a board, you play a character – the Grimm Reaper – and use the words you make to defeat the enemies.
Like a traditional dungeon game, you will move through the levels and defeat werewolves and monsters with words like “silver.” Actually, any word will harm the enemies, but the longer the word is, the more damage it will inflict on the enemy. And it’s almost as addictive as Wordle.
Kitty Letter
Unscramble words from a hexagonal grid and send a cluster of cats running for your opponent. Win points, win the game. This playful and exciting word unscrambler is not a slow burner; it’s fun and active and best played against friends or strangers. Download the app for free today.
