As you can see, this season of Black Mirror promises something for everyone. Creator Charlie Brooker teased at Netflix’s Geeked Week festival that the upcoming episodes will be a return to the show’s roots: “You can expect a mix of genres and styles. We’ve got six episodes this time, and two of them are basically feature-length. Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional.”

He also said Season 7 will feel like “a little bit OG Black Mirror,” adding: “It’s back to basics in many ways. They’re all sci-fi stories — there’s definitely some horrifying things that occur, but maybe not in an overt horror-movie way. There’s definitely some disturbing content in it.”

The First-Ever Black Mirror Sequel: The Return of USS Callister

Black Mirror Season 7

For the first time in Black Mirror history, a previous episode is getting a sequel. Season 7 will revisit “USS Callister”, the fan-favorite Season 4 opener in which a video game programmer invents a simulated reality where he’s captain of a spacecraft, his co-workers are his crew, and the sci-fi adventures they embark on take a decidedly sinister turn.

Brooker confirmed: “Fans of the show will recognize the cast of a certain spaceship from one of our episodes reappearing. We’ve done a sequel for the first time in Black Mirror history. Normally, I kill off all the characters at the end of an episode, [but] I kept some of ’em alive. I’m growing as a human.”

Returning to USS Callister are Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, and Billy Magnussen, ready to continue the eerie space saga.

Bandersnatch Favorites Are Back

If you loved the 2018 interactive film Bandersnatch, there’s even more good news. Will Poulter and Asim Chaudhry are reprising their roles as Tuckersoft employees Colin Ritman and Mohan Thakur.

Chaudhry was thrilled about returning to the Black Mirror universe, saying: “Charlie is a twisted genius in the best possible way. It’s always fun being part of this incredible, messed-up world that he’s created! I’m really excited for fans to see this episode. It might be a familiar world we are revisiting, but maybe even more screwed up if that’s possible.”

Poulter notes that he is “so excited” to return to the Tuckersoft offices alongside Chaudhry. “It’s always so fun. [Charlie] writes such spectacular episodes, and I was so grateful that he brought Colin back. I can’t wait for fans to meet the newest creations that are part of a secret project within Tuckersoft!”
