Best Sporting Events To Check Out In The State Of Maryland

Be it the professional or the collegiate levels, there is no shortage of compelling sports events to check out in the state of Maryland.

There is so much to check out in The Old Line State, including a plethora of historic sites, museums, sporting events, and of course the many signature seafood dishes (crab cakes, Utz crab chips and so much more).

The end of summer or the early stages of fall are the best time for sports fans to visit Maryland, when baseball and football seasons are running together. The NFL season commences in the second week of September, and the MLB regular season concludes in early October, with the World Series ending by early November.

It looks like the state of Maryland will launch sports betting in the not-so-distant future, perhaps by the end of this year or in early 2022. Once it goes live, new customers will be able to take advantage of several sign-up bonuses. This is expected to include a Caesars Maryland promo code where customers will get a first bet refund of up to $1,250 as well as 1,000 in Tier Credits and 1,000 in Reward Credits.

Here’s a dive into the best sporting events to check out while you’re in Maryland.

Baltimore Ravens & Washington Commanders NFL Games

The Ravens have been a model organization since the franchise relocated from Cleveland in 1996.

Baltimore won Super Bowl 35 in 2000, just their fifth season of existence. The organization has played in four AFC Championship Games since 2000, and they even won a second Super Bowl in the 2012 season.

The franchise has endured just two losing seasons under (likely) future Hall of Famer and head coach John Harbaugh. The Ravens play their home games at M&T Bank Stadium in the downtown Baltimore area.

Baltimore’s final regular season home game of 2022 will take place against the Pittsburgh Steelers on New Year’s Day. If they win the AFC North division, of course, the Ravens will guarantee themselves at least one home playoff game.

Despite being marketed as the “Washington Commanders”, the team actually plays their home games at FedExField, which is located in Landover, Maryland. Landover is approximately a one-hour drive away from Baltimore.

Washington is unlikely to make the playoffs this year, so Jan. 8 is likely the last chance to catch one of their home games this year. The Commanders will host the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys at FedExField that day (time to be announced).

Baltimore Orioles MLB Game

The Baltimore Orioles of Major League Baseball play their home games inside Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which is a very short walk away from the Ravens’ home stadium.

The MLB regular season traditionally begins in the final days of March or the early days of April, and it runs through early October. The Orioles open their season against the Boston Red Sox on Mar. 30, but Brandon Hyde’s squad won’t play at home until Apr. 6, when they begin a series against the New York Yankees.

Baltimore will conclude the regular season with a four-game home series against the Red Sox from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1. So there’s a six-month window there to see an Orioles home game if you’re planning a visit to Maryland.

Maryland Terrapins Football Game

The Maryland Terrapins’ football team is having a strong season under head coach Mike Locksley, proving that last year’s 7-6 campaign was no mirage.

Maryland opened the season 3-0 before splitting their next six games.Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa, is having a phenomenal season for the Terrapins.

The Terrapins will conclude their 2022 regular season with a home tilt against Rutgers on Nov. 26, and then we’ll wait for the announcements on the bowl games.

So if you’re hoping to see Ravens, Commanders, Orioles and Terrapins home games during your visit to Maryland, the best bet is to plan a trip at some point in September or early October.  NFL and NCAA football start up in September, and the Orioles’ season will only run through October if they go on a deep playoff run.

But if football is your main sport, you’ve got a nice three-month window from early September to the end of November to see all three: The Ravens, the Commanders and the Terrapins.
