Are The Glory Days Returning For The Cleveland Cavaliers?

Published

on

A great deal has happened across the world since the Cleveland Cavaliers were tearing up the NBA in the mid 2010’s.

From Brexit to Donald Trump and from Putin’s war to COVID, reminiscing back to the glory days of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA is rather therapeutic, reminding us all of a simpler time.

However, in the 2022/23 season, the Cleveland Cavaliers finally look to have assembled a squad capable of challenging at the very highest level once again in the NBA.

For all their dominance in the mid 2010’s, the Cavs only picked up one NBA Championship title in 2016 but their hold on the Eastern Conference was vice-like, something all associated with the franchise are striving for once more.

The impact of LeBron James on the Cavs side can of course never be underestimated and filling his shoes was always going to be a tall order.

However, there are signs that the team cohesion is there once again at the Rocket Mortgage Field House and with fans starting to believe once more, who knows how far the Cavaliers team of 2023 can actually go.

Whilst the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks have started the season in imperious form, it is the Cavaliers who look to be next in line for the Eastern Conference title.

Sitting pretty in 4th, the Cavs have won 8 of their opening 13 games played but recent performances have dipped a little – losing their last 4 games in recent weeks.

That doesn’t tell the whole story though, as they have endured some tough opposition and some rough defeats, meaning they will need to show character as the season progresses, something they look to have in abundance.

Currently, the Cleveland Cavaliers are +800 to win the Eastern Conference, a title they last won back in 2018 – at the end of 4 consecutive campaigns where they picked up the trophy.

Qualifying for the playoffs will remain their ultimate objective though, especially due to the start the Celtics and the Bucks have enjoyed and they will fancy their chances against anybody on their day.

At +2200, the Cavaliers are certainly in with a shot of winning the NBA Championship, for what would be just the second time in their illustrious history.

Away from the Cavs, East coast rivals Boston Celtics are very much the team to catch in 2022/23 and finding a team to stop them could be a tall order.

Coming in at +650 odds with this betMGM NY offer to go all the way and avenge their NBA finals defeat last year, the Celtics look very well placed this term.

Similarly, defending NBA champions Golden State Warriors have a habit of turning it on when it matters and they continue to fly the flag for the Western Conference.

At +700, Golden State Warriors are always a team to watch, especially at the back end of the campaign.
