2014 Ford Focus RS Could Be Pushing 350HP!
According to a report in Auto Express, the next-generation Focus RS should be one hot little number when it launches in 2014. Ford is expected to ditch the ST’s 2.0L turbocharged inline-four for a new 2.3L EcoBoost engine that will produce around 350 horsepower. Power will be put to the ground via a six-speed manual transmission.
Unfortunately, Ford wants to retain the Focus’s front-wheel-drive architecture, rather than go with all-wheel-drive. Engineers claim that they’re working on new technology to reign in all that power, presumably some sort of active limited-slip differential or something of that nature.
Personally, I think that’s a huge mistake on Ford’s part, as an AWD Focus RS pushing 350HP would definitely put the STI and EVO on notice!
It’s unknown whether the Focus RS will come to the US, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed. When it launches in Europe, the RS is expected to retail for about 25,000 pounds, which is just shy of $40,000 based on current exchange rates.
Here’s hoping Ford brings this hot hatch to the States!
